OCCITANIE
Puivert is situated in the High Valley of the Aude in the Occitanie region of France. The Haute Vallée is famous for its abundant vineyards, outstanding mountain views and unspoilt landscapes. Discover breathtaking and dramatic scenery, Cathar castles, local markets, and all sorts of gastronomic culture.
Occitanie has a long and colourful history, leaving a legacy of pretty Medieval villages and dramatic clifftop Cathar castles. A temperate climate, with over 200 days of sunshine a year, makes it an ideal area for walking and outdoor activities.
Friendly people and lively local communities offer a range of events year-round. For wine and food-lovers there are vineyards and wine-tasting, and local produce markets where you can sample cheeses, artisan bread, and a colourful array of fresh local vegetables and fruit.
PUIVERT VILLAGE
Horizons Verts is just a 5 minute walk from the charming village of Puivert. In the village you will find a beautiful lake with a sandy beach where you can go swimming or fishing, and a museum of music and local history. The Cathar Castle, a centre for music and jousting in the Middle Ages, is open all year round. The gliding club offers experience flights over the beautiful surrounding area, and Puivert is a great base for hiking and cycling, or for day-trips to nearby castles, lakes, caves and mountains. The village has three restaurants and a café, a brasserie, and a café/bar by the lake, with regular live music. In summer there are weekly night markets with music and food stalls and a great, lively atmosphere, and a spectacular firework display takes place across the lake in July.
